Emergency Medical Technician is the entry-level certification for the EMS profession. The EMT Program is a single semester, 11-credit program. The program prepares competent, entry-level emergency medical technicians in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The program meets the requirements set forth in the National EMS Education Standards aligning with Florida statutes and administrative code through classroom, skills laboratory, clinical rotations, and field internship courses.

Students learn basic life support skills such as CPR, wound management, and childbirth needed to assess and manage a diverse population of medical and trauma patients. They also learn the skills necessary to work with paramedics as port of a tiered prehospital system and with other professionals in multidisciplinary healthcare settings.

Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' (NREMT) EMT certification exam that also serves as the state certification exam. Graduates passing the exam will be awarded the Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician credential and will be eligible to apply for licensure with the State of Florida.
